Philosophy for Children P4C and Kamishibai Sometimes known as Thinking for Change

2006/7 has been a truly amazing year for the Kamishibai Man, Michelle and I have been going into schools with Age Concern's Lifelink project giving sessions as a stage two facilitator with Philosophy for children, P4C. Kamishibai man has been going along as the stimulus. In P4C the stimulus can be almost anything but we have found the Kamishibai stories with their visual impact are particularly good. This is followed by a “community of enquiry”   I which I get feedback from the children as to what they like about the stories how they agree or disagree with the story,  in many cases I actually alter the stories after the sessions to reflect the children’s interests, also as Michelle works with Age Concern intergenerationaly the older members of the group get their say and input too. It has been very thought provoking and heartening project especially when we are often asked back. The purpose of P4C is to get children to ask there own questions, and to look deeper, it certainly does that.

I was also approached by a lady from Bath who saw a lecture demonstration I did in Birmingham at a story telling conference on Kamishibai and wants to have a Kamishibai Booth and Bike built! That’s 100% increase in Kamishibai in this country in one Year!
